What are pores?
Your pores are the tiny holes in your skin that release oil and sweat and allow your skin to breathe. They get clogged when too much oil is produced and can't escape. When they get clogged, your skin is still producing oil and this oil gets backed up causing the pore to swell. This swelling is called a pimple.
Are pimples and acne the same?
Yes and no. Pimples are single bumps that are caused by clogged pores. Acne is caused by the bacterium Cutibacterium acnes. This bacterium lives on the skin and when it is not managed properly by a regular skin care routine, the bacteria will multiply rapidly and cause breakouts which can become infected. These breakouts come in the form of pimples. It is important to find an antibacterial skin care product that fights this bacteria. This is the best way to prevent acne.
How to prevent clogged pores?
Cleaning your face daily with non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores) products is the best way to prevent clogged pores.
You should also avoid products that contain chemicals, isopropyl alcohol, or artificial fragrances as these ingredients can irritate your skin causing inflammatory reactions. They can also become trapped in your pores which will cause a break out.
Salicylic acid is one of the best ingredients for clearing your pores. Our Revive Clear Skin Serum contains this lovely ingredient and it is amazing at preventing acne.
Products containing retinol are great at this because retinol works to remove dirt and oil from your pores. We recommend applying a retinol cream at night which will keep your pores open while you sleep, reducing the chance of waking up with a new pimple.
All of our products are certified non-comedogenic which means that they will NOT clog your pores. Our Black Soap and Revive Clear Skin Serum also fight that pesky acne bacteria. This is why our skin care line is so effective. It was made with science in mind.
